'Egypt's Jon Stewart' Bassem Youssef takes America
Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef and new U.S. resident is set to launch a scathing new show, Democracy Handbook.
Few comedians can say they've made international headlines and triggered comment from presidents; but both are true of Bassem Youssef.
The doctor-turned-satirist had his wildly popular satirical news show The Program shut down in 2013. But now the outspoken entertainer is back with a new web series called Democracy Handbook. This time the new Californian is critiquing his adopted homeland right within its borders.
Today Youssef joins guest host Rachel Giese to discuss the joys and perils of speaking truth to power, how his family is adjusting to American life, and what the political cultures of the U.S. and Egypt have in common.
Plus, he has some harsh words for American mangoes.
