Boonaa Mohammed's Tug of War takes frank look at radicalization
Canadian spoken word poet Boonaa Mohammed on his compelling portrait of a young Muslim man drawn into the world of radical Islam.
Islamophobia feeds right into ISIS' "you're not wanted here" narrative, cautions Boonaa Mohammed. His debut feature film Tug of War follows one of the many paths to radicalization for young Muslim men in the West.
The actor, filmmaker and poet joins Shad to discuss the double-bind facing diverse Muslim communities, the unique challenges faced by youth, and the dangers of keeping an entire community and generation on the defensive.
"That can do a lot to the psyche of a community, a generation growing up. You're consistently needing to defend yourself. That has repercussions."
