The Whiteness Project: PBS doc explores what it means to be white
What happens when you ask white people to reflect on their racial identity?
Documentary filmmaker Whitney Dow joins guest host Piya Chattopadhyay to discuss The Whiteness Project. The provocative multi-platform initiative invites white people to confront their own racial identity and reflect on what it really means to be white.
Dow, who has made many documentaries on the subject of race, shares his reasons for turning the lens on people who check off the "White/Caucasian" box when filling out forms. He also responds to critics of the partly PBS-funded project, many of whom argue the opinions of white people are already overrepresented.
