On first listen, you might be inclined to file Chandra's 1980 EP Transportation alongside post-punk albums by the B-52s or The Slits — but, amazingly, Chandra was only 12 years old when she became a cult hero.

Now, 35 years later, she's bringing her precocious music back to the stage.

Today she joins guest host Tom Power to explain how a child goes about crashing an underground music scene, how Weird Canada spurred her return, and how she accounts for the emotional complexity of her lyrics.

"I enjoyed twisting things around," she laughs. "I'm sure I got that from my father."

WEB EXTRA | Watch the eccentric video for Concentration, as sung by a young Chandra, below. She notes that children have a lot to say, and that adults should learn to listen.

35 years after she first stepped into the spotlight, Chandra is back.
