An obedient daughter talks back in 'Sarah' graphic novel
Sarah is forever cooking and cleaning in her family's cramped apartment. The 17 year old is under constant pressure to protect her figure and her reputation, while remaining on the lookout for potential husbands.
The men in her life include a brother who can do no wrong and an uncle who sometimes gets too close for comfort.
Writer-illustrator Ayesha Tariq tells Sarah's story in the irreverent new graphic novel Sarah: The Suppressed Anger of the Pakistani Obedient Daughter.
She joins Shad to discuss a story that is both specific and relatable, the eye-rolling teenage girls of Pakistan, and how improv helped her find a way to cleverly challenge authority.
