Jennifer Aniston on breaking type for dark role in Cake

The former Friends star discusses her departure into an emotionally demanding role.

If you know Jennifer Aniston best as quirky, upbeat Rachel from Friends, her latest role may shock you. Indie drama Cake sees the actress taking on her riskiest and darkest character yet: a troubled woman living with chronic pain, loss and addiction.

The actress joins guest host Candy Palmater to discuss her departure into an emotionally-demanding role, how her talents and interests have changed since her 20s, and the never-ending scrutiny of her life off-screen. She also talks about being snubbed for an nomination for this year's Oscars.
Aniston, who plays Claire Bennett, a character she describes as a "woman who's stuck," says she couldn't have pulled off this role in her earlier years as an actress. "You have to have a level of life experience and wisdom to be able to access those parts of yourself... in my 20s, I think I was doing just fine being Rachel."
