Ana Lily Amirpour is the director of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, a feminist vampire drama, that was shot in America and set in Iran. The film has received rave reviews since debuting at Sundance last year.
Amirpour talks to guest host Candy Palmater about turning vampire stereotypes on their head, whether she feels a need to tell Iranian stories, and why she decided to make her next film about cannibals.
The American-Iranian Amirpour, who was raised stateside, calls the film an "Iranian fairy tale" and says it reflects her sense of her own cultural identity.
"[It's a] combination of feeling very connected and very disconnected at the same time," she says.
