Canada Reads winning team on what's next for Ru
Ru by Kim Thúy has been crowned the book most likely to break barriers following an intense season of Canada Reads. The annual battle of the books was particularly spirited this year, with gossip blogger Elaine Lui challenging Canada to "go rogue" and Martha Wainwright passionately defending the right to live free.
But in the end, a quieter but compelling read climbed to the top of Canada's reading list.
Today, the successful book defender — TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey — and winning author Kim Thúy share their reactions to the big win and why they feel the story of a young woman fleeing Saigon in the 1970s can inspire a renewel of compassion in Canada today.
