Alex Cuba's Healer blends Latin grooves with pop hooks
Alex Cuba's culture-crossing, bilingual sound is sure to soothe your soul.
Alex Cuba — resident of Smithers, B.C. by way of Artemisa, Cuba — has become a unique and vital musical voice in Canada. In his new record Healer, Alex has fully embraced the concept of unification: mixing Latin grooves with pop hooks, the Cuban requinto guitar with more traditional instruments, and both English and Spanish lyrics.
Today the musician joins us to perform live throughout the show. He also sits down with guest host Talia Schlanger to discuss why he can't write music from a dark place, why it doesn't matter where a musician lives, and how he plans to "wake up" all the romantics out there.
"Happiness is what we need, sweetness in our lives," says Cuba. "Who doesn't want to invite sweetness and happiness into their lives?"
