A Tribe Called Red perform, reflect on wielding political influence

DJ Shub, DJ NDN and DJ Bear Witness perform and talk politics.

A Tribe Called Red joins us live to perform from their latest album, the Polaris Prize-shortlisted Nation II Nation. The Ottawa-based electronic musicians, and originators of the Electric Pow Wow, bring their contagious energy before a live audience.

The sharp and outspoken artists also sit down for a quick chat with Jian, reflecting on the band's rising profile, their creative partnership, and their ongoing dedication to their politics.

Ian Campeau says that the band's growing popularity -- they won the Juno Award this year for Breakthrough Group -- doesn't change how they approach issues that matter to them. They still rely on Twitter to communicate with their fans and followers.

"It brings a lot of discussion that needs to be happening, I feel, within Canada and we're just happy to be part of that," Campeau tells Jian.

In the video below, the band is joined by hoop dancer James Jones as they perform their single "Sisters".

This interview is part of our special Q Live at Luminato show. It was recorded live on June 5th at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and aired for the first time on Friday, June 6th.
