Gord Downie's brothers on feeling the nation's grief: 'This country weighs a lot'
Last week was particularly difficult for the entire country. Canada lost a man who felt, to many of us, like a part of our family. Even though we knew for a while that it was coming, the loss of Gord Downie is nevertheless difficult to fully comprehend. He entertained us, he inpisred us and he loved our country very much. But while Gord only felt like family, for Mike and Patrick Downie, he really was.
Gord's brothers stopped by q to share their appreciation of the country's massive outpouring of love and support, revealing: "It compounds the grief when you know so many other people are grieving, and when you see some of the things on the front pages of all the papers ... this country weighs a lot. And we're not trying to say we're holding it up, but we think many hands make lighter work."
Listen as Mike and Patrick share memories of Gord and, more importantly, urge Canadians to follow the late singer's lead and continue on in his footsteps: to work towards reconciliation with the country's Indigenous people.
