We speak to Patricia Williams (Ms. Pat) about her unconventional path to comedy. Before becoming a comic, she was a drug dealer, got shot, spent time in prison, was a mother of two — all during her teens.

Ms. Pat's star is rising and she's making appearances on a lot of Comedy Central TV shows. Soon, she's expected to have her own show. Lee Daniels and Brian Grazer, two of the producers behind the hit show Empire, say they plan to make a TV series about her life.

Ms. Pat's memoir is called Rabbit, which was also her street name, and guest host Laurie Brown talks to her about her life growing up in Atlanta.
