Is R. Kelly's time up? Spotify pulls singer's music from playlists
Every Friday, q This looks at the biggest stories in music news. This week, CBC's Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe and musician Ian Campeau, former member of A Tribe Called Red, talk about Spotify removing all of R. Kelly's music from their official playlists and recommended music lists. R. Kelly's music will still be available for streaming, but will not be promoted by Spotify.
This is one of the first big moves from a major music company in response to the #MuteRKelly movement, which is a reaction to the many serious allegations against the singer, including assault, sexual violence, coercion and running a sex cult.
Tetteh-Wayoe and Campeau discuss if Spotify went far enough with their actions and how other parts of the music industry will react in this era of #MeToo and #TimesUp.
