The 2018 Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlist has just been announced, and it includes former Giller winner Esi Edugyan and past finalist Patrick deWitt, as well as first-time Giller nominees Eric Dupont, Sheila Heti and Thea Lim.

Patrick deWitt is also on the program this Friday, Oct. 5. You can also check out deWitt's interview about his 2011 book, Sisters Brothers, being turned into a film that generated big buzz at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. 

The Giller winner, who receives a $100,000 prize, will be announced at this year's gala, which is set for Nov. 19 in Toronto. The ceremony is being hosted by comedian Rick Mercer, and will air on CBC and be live-streamed at CBCBooks.ca.

The Scotiabank Giller Prize was established in 1994 by businessman Jack Rabinovitch in memory of his wife, literary journalist Doris Giller. Past winners have included Margaret Atwood, Mordecai Richler, Alice Munro, M.G. Vasanji and André Alexis.

Last year's winner was Michael Redhill for his book Bellevue Square.
