From Elvis to the Beatles to Joan Jett, 25 of the greatest Gibson guitar moments
Iconic guitar maker Gibson filed for bankruptcy protection this week; here are 25 top songs on their guitars.
It's the guitar brand behind some of rock music's biggest songs — but this week Gibson Brands Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection.
Gibson made all kinds of legendary guitars — the Flying V, the ES-335, the Explorer — but none more storied than the Les Paul line.
Many say the company got too big too fast, and took on too much debt to finance acquisitions of brands including Royal Phillips, TEAC and Onkyo. Gibson also makes instruments under the brand names Dobro, Epiphone, Kramer and Tobias, and owns historic names including Wurlitzer.
For now, the company will continue to operate, having reached an agreement with majority noteholders and shareholders, but the bankruptcy filing says the company's debts are between $100 million and $500 million.
That's more than enough to make anyone sing the blues; but even if the company goes under, the Gibson name will continue to live on.
So to honour the Gibson guitar, we've gathered a list of 25 iconic songs that feature the famous brand:
Les Paul and Mary Ford, 'How High the Moon'
