Comedians tell their favourite, most groan-inducing dad jokes
Laugh (or don't?) with Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Keegan-Michael Key and Taggart & Torrens
Q: How did the hipster burn his tongue?
A: He drank it before it was cool.
When you tell a dad joke in real life it's almost always followed by an awkward silence, or an eye roll and a groan. In some cases, if the person is really offended, they may even go so far as to pretend it never happened. That's how you know it worked.
The truth is, there's an art to telling the perfect dad joke. Well, maybe "art" isn't the right word. Perhaps it's more of a complete abandonment of shame — an embrace, really, of shamelessness — that lies at the heart of a good (by which of course we mean terrible) dad joke.
Of course you don't have to be a dad to tell a dad joke, but it certainly helps, especially since innocent children act as the perfect testing ground for your material. So, in honour of Father's Day, we asked some very funny people to tell us their favourite dad jokes. Some are legitimately funny, but most are, well, not. Below, click listen to hear Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Keegan-Michael Key, Jeremy Taggart and Jonathan Torrens do their worst.
If that wasn't enough for you, watch Taggart and Torrens attempt to hold back their laughter in this Bad Joke-Off.
