A new documentary reveals Jim Carrey's unexpected new talent

Over the past few years, Canadian Jim Carrey has slowed down his acting career quite a bit. With just a few credits to his name since 2014, when he starred in the Dumb and Dumber sequel, Dumb and Dumber To, some might have wondered what the actor has really been up to. 

Well, in a new documentary that's been posted on Vimeo, it has been revealed that Carrey has devoted his time to something new: painting. 

Jim Carrey: I Needed Color is a six-minute short film about Carrey's passion for art and painting, and how he turned to it shortly after a breakup six years ago as a way to "heal a broken heart." 

"I like the independence of it, I like the freedom of it," Carrey says, as he takes a brush to a large canvas. "It frees me from the future, it frees me from the past, it frees me from regret and it frees me from worry." 

It may appear to be a strange turn for Carrey, a funnyman who is best known for starring in comedies like Ace Ventura, The Mask and Bruce Almighty, but his art speaks for itself. Carrey is serious about this, and even talks about his interest in sketching as a kid, alongside performing. 

It's a fascinating look into the actor's life now, and the video has already gotten over two million views on Vimeo. Watch the full documentary below.
