'I saw him play every intrument as good or better as anyone I've seen play,' L. Stu Young says of Prince's musical genius. (Universal; Columbia/NPG)

Recording engineer and producer L. Stu Young worked on Musicology and 3121 with Prince.

Young remembers the late artist as an incredibly talented musician and hard worker with unbelievable energy.

"I'd get a call at 11 o'clock on a Tuesday night in Toronto and he'd say, 'Can you be on a plane tomorrow?' and I'd be in L.A. for a month, or Minneapolis for a month, or wherever," he says.

Of Prince's personality, Young recalls an astonishing energy, but also a man of two minds.

"He'd have moments where you could bond and then there were other moments where he wouldn't necessarily — when he was involved in his creativity," Young tells Shad, "... in some ways he was a bit lonely, too, because of his fame."
