Tasha Spillett is a 26-year-old teacher and community advocate living in Winnipeg.

She's a proud Cree woman, and will be spending her summer going to pow wows, sundances, and traditional ceremonies.

But Tasha is also... single.

In a frank conversation with New Fire host Lisa Charleyboy, Tasha reveals the rules she follows when it comes to romance - and how she combines dating and traditional values. One particular rule? She only dates outside her clan.

I was raised traditionally - in ceremony - and part of being raised in ceremony is an understanding of kinship relationships.- Tasha Spillett

"Dating outside of our clan keeps our kinship relationships in tact. Dating within your clan would be almost like dating a relative."
