Meet the people at Iqaluit's only post office

Up north in Iqaluit, Nunavut there is no door-to-door mail service - so everyone goes to the post office for their letters, postcards, and packages.

In Iqaluit, there's no door-to-door mail service. There's no courier either. So the city's 7,000 residents have to go to the post office for all of their letters, postcards and packages.

The sole Canada Post location is a busy place – one that plays an important role in the lives of people in the northern community. DNTO producer Iris Yudai visited the post office this week, just as they were ramping up for the Christmas season. Here's who she met:

What's the most exciting thing that ever happened at this post office?
'We got boxes in the mail. There were some new movies. We got 'Home' and 'Epic'!- Francene and Heather Atagootak
I've worked in a lot of post offices. My jaw dropped when I walked in here. I've never seen a post office this busy.- Diane Hole, Acting Postmaster

This is a very essential service to the northern communities, especially small communities. This gives us all kinds of choices and channels to keep up with the world.- Ji Liu

I've been in the north for 17 years. So I'm accustomed to bringing my groceries up when I can, and then having to buy them at the store. But now that I hear about Amazon, it's a much better way to buy stuff.- Vivien Summers

I'm here every day. The line has gotten faster. You used to wait a long time, and like everybody else, you peek in the window and decide, "Do I really need to pick up my package that badly today?"- Michael Murphy
