Politicians vs. social media

Social media gaffes are taking down candidates left, right, and centre. So what will it take for those remaining in the race to keep their names out of the mud? Brent talks to Michael Schlossberg about the risks. He's the author of "Tweets And Consequences" and a U.S. state representative.

The deadline for nominating candidates for this federal election has passed. This means if candidates make a serious gaffe, the party has to decide whether to stick by them or have no representative running in that riding. More than ten candidates have had to drop out so far after their bad or questionable behaviour surfaced online. So what will it take for those remaining candidates to keep their names out of the mud?

Michael Schlossberg knows first-hand about the pressures facing politicians and the dangers of social media. He's the author of "Tweets And Consequences: 60 Social Media Disasters in Politics and How You Can Avert a Career-Ending Mistake." He's also a state representative in Pennsylvania. Brent gets Michael's take on when candidates deserve forgiveness and when they've crossed the line.
