Affordable housing as an election issue

If you live in one of this country's biggest cities, you'll know putting a roof over your head doesn't come cheap. Real estate prices keep climbing and if you're a renter, finding an affordable place to live can be a real challenge. That's why the mayors of Canada's largest cities this week called on federal leaders to tackle affordable housing shortages across the country. They'd like to see housing become a major election issue.

As part of our #myriding series, we zoom in on B.C's Burnaby-South riding where over the last year advocates say at least 24 affordable rental buildings have been demolished to make way for high-priced condominiums towers. It's a phenomenon known as "demo-victions." Brent speaks with a woman whose building is slated for demolition and we hear from local candidates about what they're planning to do to address the lack of affordable housing and rental units.
