Day 6

What is the most Canadian news story ever?

A man from New Brunswick is launching a constitutional challenge this week over a fine he received for bringing beer and liquor across provincial borders. Comedians Gilson Lubin and Rebecca Kohler debate how this story stacks up compared to other uber-Canadian stories.

A man from New Brunswick has started a constitutional challenge over a fine he received for bringing beer and liquor across provincial borders. Gerard Comeau was arrested in October 2012 by the RCMP for bringing 14 cases of beer, two bottles of whisky and a bottle of liquor from Quebec across the provincial border to his home in New Brunswick. But instead of paying his fine of $292.50, he argues he has a constitutional right to buy beer in Quebec for personal use. Comeau was in Campbellton Provincial Court this week disputing his charge.

Mounties, beer, arcane regulations, a monotonous court case - this story is full of Canadian cliches. But is it the MOST Canadian story in recent years? Comedians Gilson Lubin and Rebecca Kohler weigh in.
