Day 6 encore: Edward O. Wilson on what aliens would be like
Does humanity hold a special place in the universe? And why do we exist? In his book The Meaning of Human Existence, biologist and Harvard University professor Edward O. Wilson provides insight on these questions by exploring biology and human behaviour, the ethical challenges posed by technological breakthroughs, and the meaning of religion. As part of this exploration, Wilson poses another question often on the minds of science fiction fans: what would intelligent life from another world be like?
Through his research, Wilson has become acutely aware of the importance of seeing humanity as just one species in a vast number of possibilities. His knowledge of evolutionary biology has allowed him to shape together an idea of what alien life might look like, as well as how they would communicate and interact.
He joined Day 6 to discuss his theories in October from New York City.
