Back to the future with Star Wars, Oprah and Marty McFly

We elected a Liberal majority government and there's a Clinton running for president. It almost feels like we are going back to the future.
This file photo provided by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment shows Christopher Lloyd, left, as Dr. Emmett Brown, and Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in the 1985 film, Back to the Future. The new Liberal government in Ottawa plans to do some time-travelling of its own, cancelling out changes made under the Conservatives to programs and services like employment insurance, old age pensions and door-to-door mail delivery. That was then, this is then again

"It does in a weird way seem like we kind of have gone back to the future right now. I mean, like, there's suddenly a Liberal majority, Blue Jay fever and a Clinton running for the White House, so it's pretty much exactly 1993 again," said host Gavin Crawford.

Because News panellists Mike Bullard, Ashley Botting and Anand Rajaram took a look at recent events that seem like a call-back to a few decades ago.

Han Solo and Princess Leia in a star war

This week, the trailer for the new Star Wars movie was released driving fans wild with excitement because the trailer features both Han Solo and Princess Leia.

The last time you could go to the movies and see the pair in a Star Wars movie was 1983, in Return of the Jedi.

Or, as Rajaram put it "a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away."

Oprah speaks about weight loss

Oprah Winfrey announced she will act as a spokesperson for Weight Watchers.

Winfrey also bought a 10 per cent share in the company.

The move harkens back to 1988 when Oprah made headlines for wheeling 67 pounds of animal fat on a wagon on her show to illustrate how much weight she had lost.
