Does 'The Bird Dance' deserve to be on Canada's Walk of Fame?
Edmonton-Decore MLA Chris Nielsen is pushing to get an Edmonton band a spot on Canada's Walk of Fame, prompting Because News host Gavin Crawford to sing "Should we give the song a spot, should we give the song a spot, on the Walk of Fame, walk walk walk walk?"
The Emerald's 1982 song "Bird Dance" went double platinum in Canada and gold in Australia. It's still played at weddings around the globe.
Even the Because News audience got out of their seats to dance to the track.
Panellists Aisha Alfa, Barbara Kay and Tom Howell discussed whether the band deserves to be immortalized on the Walk of Fame.
"It might be famous but I think it's more annoying," said Aisha Alfa.
"I used to be a wedding planner and people would have in their wedding contracts all these different details and 'no Bird Dance' was one of them."
Tom Howell likes the idea of a chicken square on the Walk of Fame, located in downtown Toronto.
"They could maybe use real chicken feet going over it as though the chicken walked over it while it was wet," he said.
