Derrick Henderson is the Acting Chief of the Sagkeeng First Nation. He says the news is very tragic for his community.
"There's so many issues with the missing and murdered aboriginal women. Here's another example."
The Acting Chief says there are 4-5 women currently missing from the Sagkeeng First Nation. He says it's very sombre and disheartening when someone so young is murdered.
"We need to protect our children."
Winnipeg Police found Fontaine's remains in a bag. At the time, they were searching for Faron Hall. He rose to fame in 2009 as Winnipeg's "Homeless Hero," after he rescued a teenage boy from the same river when it was covered in ice. He talked publicly about his problems with alcohol addiction. On Friday, Hall was seen struggling in the river's waters. His body was found shortly after Fontaine's.
Hall said the attention he received for his rescue might be a turning point in his life, but that he would things "one day at a time."
