"They have an eight-year-old and a four-year-old." That's the first thing a tearful Matthew McConkey says about his friends Muktesh Mukherjee and his Xiaomo Bai, two Canadians on the Malaysia Airlines flight that vanished over the South China Sea Saturday.

"They're going to lose their innocence, very quickly," Mr. McConkey said of the kids. He frequently visited the couple at their home in Beijing, he told Carol. He added that the family is wrestling over how, and what, to tell their children, who have been staying with  Xiaomo Bai's parents.
Mr. McConkey described the pair, who were returning from a short vacation in Vietnam, as very friendly people, who always had time for their friends.

"We've lost a great couple. I know that sounds pat, but in this case, it's really true."
