Congressman says SNL's Lorne Michaels should dump Trump because 'racism isn't funny'

"Lorne Michaels is from Canada, he's an immigrant to the USA, and he should know better," says Rep. Luis Gutiérrez.
Rep. Luis Gutiérrez wants NBC to cancel Donald Trump's 'SNL' appearance

On Nov. 7, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is slated to host Saturday Night Live, but not if Illinois Congressman Luis Gutiérrez has anything to do with it. He's one of a growing chorus of people calling on NBC to pull Trump from the show.

The reason? "Racism isn't funny."

When Donald Trump launched his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in June, he said: ""When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best... They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."

At the time, NBC fired Donald Trump, citing his "derogatory statements." But that hasn't stopped the network from allowing him to be on the legendary comedy program, SNL

It's a decision that frustrates Rep. Gutiérrez: "I am perplexed, astonished, bewildered, that NBCUniversal-Comcast would decide to allow him to host the program." He went on to point out that SNL has no Latino cast members.

Did I miss something? Did I miss an apology?- Rep. Luis Gutiérrez

Rep. Gutiérrez says he doubts SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels would allow Donald Trump on the show "...if he had said that Canadians come here as murderers, rapists and drug dealers."

"Lorne Michaels is from Canada. He's an immigrant to the United States of America. He should know better."

Petitions on MoveOn.org and Change.org to have Trump's appearance cancelled have garnered 370,000 signatures.
