The Canadian music icon tells up-and-coming artists to 'work harder'
Buffy Sainte-Marie has been making music for more than five decades now, and in that time she has gained a lot of wisdom on the music industry.
When CBC Music caught up with the Canadian icon at this year's Juno Awards, we asked her what her advice for young, up-and-coming artists would be. Her response: "Try harder. Try harder than you think you should. Don't go for a B+, go for an A+. Don't give up on a song when it's just kind of OK."
She goes on to challenge musicians to write more "broadly" in order to reach more people with their ideas and perspectives. And lastly: "Learn more than four chords."
