This fall, a new podcast series will honour the legacy of Joni Mitchell. Hosted by Carmel Holt, who hosted and created the Sheroes podcastThe Road to Joni will feature interviews with musicians and non-musicians who have been connected to, and inspired by, the legendary singer.

"What we are celebrating on this Road to Joni is how [Joni Mitchell] not only passed the flame to all of those she's inspired, but also how that flame has been passed back to her, sparking her to take to the stage once again," Holt said in a statement. "And so the circle game continues."

The weekly podcast series will run from Sept. 6 through Nov. 7 — which is also Mitchell's 81st birthday. The podcast will feature many guests, including Alison Russell, Hozier, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Kathleen Edwards, Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso, Béla Fleck and more. Holt will travel from New York City to Los Angeles as she releases the podcast, covering events and on-air visits in her recordings, and she'll include a stop at two Joni Jam shows at the Hollywood Bowl in October — Mitchell's first headlining sets in Los Angeles in more than two decades.

Mitchell returned to performing in June 2022 at the Newport Folk Festival after decades off the stage. The recording of that show won the singer her 2024 Grammy Award, and she performed at that ceremony for the first time this year. (She has won 11 Grammys over her career.) Mitchell also recently released The Asylum Albums (1976-1980), a box set that brought together remastered versions of her albums Hejira (1976), Don Juan's Reckless Daughter (1977), Mingus (1979) and the 1980 live album Shadows and Light.
