There's a running joke in the astrology community that you'll never need to guess if someone is a Leo or not, because they'll tell you before you even get the chance. This is a very proud sign that likes to make its presence known.

Naturally charismatic, Leos enjoy being the centre of attention, and love to regale people with stories of their everyday life. They make the mundane sound absolutely glamorous because everything they do comes with a heavy dose of panache. Leos are inclined to luxury, they want the best the world has to offer.

Symbolized by the lion, Leos are deeply loyal and devoted to their pack (whether that be friends or family) and they'll stop at nothing to protect those they love. Like their fellow fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius, it's best to stay on their good side, unless you want to feel their fiery wrath.

People born under this sign can be a bit self-involved and image-focused if they get too into themselves. They sometimes need a reminder that the world doesn't revolve around them, but since they're the only sign ruled by the sun, they could make the case that actually, it does.

Most of the time, their unwavering confidence and self-assurance works to embolden those around them — their sunbeams liven up anyone in their orbit. Leos are arguably the best hype people and root for you louder than they root for themselves. Their positivity and light is a gift.

According to CBC Life astrologer Bryanna Collier, Leo season can be a beautiful time to strengthen our connections in friendship, family and love. "When the sun enters this fixed fire sign, we tend to become more extroverted and generous with each other, " she says.

Discover the five songs below for a crash course in Leo proclivities.

'If I Can't Have You,' Shawn Mendes

On "If I Can't Have You," Leo sweetheart Shawn Mendes really taps into this fire sign's need to have it all in love. They can be a bit over the top about it, but they're so charming that they make their obsessive tendencies endearing. "Everything means nothing if I can't have you," is swoon-worthy, rather than fear-inducing.

'No Shade,' Myst Milano

Like a lion strutting and shaking its mane, Leos know they're the star of the show. Their outsized confidence is infectious and ends up rubbing off on everyone they come in contact with. That's why there's no way to get through Myst Milano's "No Shade," without seeing yourself as top grade.

'Right Here,' Begonia

"Right Here" is a love song that Winnipeg singer-songwriter Begonia wrote to her friends. It's a reminder that even when she's far away, she's always in their corner. If there's one Leo trait that shines above the rest, it's their ride or die, lifelong loyalty to their friends.

'Pretty Girl Era,' Lu Kala

Lu Kala's hooky pop song is full of earwormy lyrics, but the one that encapsulates Leo energy the most is: "I don't care, I'm in my pretty girl era/ I'ma stare when I see myself in the mirror." Leos love to primp and preen, and they're devoted to putting their best face forward. They always turn heads when they walk into a room.

'Antetokounmpo,' No Tourists

Toronto-based supergroup No Tourists has made a name for itself with brash and cocksure bars and their single "Antetokounmpo" is no exception. Named after the seven-time NBA All-Star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, it's two minutes and 34 seconds of grandstanding self-confidence. In true Leo fashion, it's not bragging if you can back it up.
