31 writers make the 2019 CBC Nonfiction Prize longlist

The winner of the 2019 CBC Nonfiction Prize will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have their work published on CBC Books and attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their work published on CBC Books.
The shortlist will be announced on Sept. 18, 2019. The winner will be revealed on Sept. 25, 2019.
The longlist was selected from more than 2,200 English-language submissions by a team of readers from across Canada. The finalists and eventual winner will be selected by the jury from this longlist.
The 2019 jury is comprised of Harold R. Johnson, Elizabeth Renzetti and Mark Sakamoto.

Sandra Murdock won the 2018 prize for her story Easy Family Dinners.
The CBC Literary Prizes have been recognizing Canadian writers for 40 years. Past winners include Michael Ondaatje, Carol Shields, Michael Winter and Frances Itani.
