Where do the surnames O’Bomsawin, Moar, or Gros-Louis come from? As the Church set down roots in the colony, Indigenous names became distorted. These traditional names were handed down from the ancestors to highlight a character trait, birth season, or life’s mission. It’s a naming protocol that resonates to this day. Mamu, together, we’ll reclaim our names.
