By the late 1800s, Shadrach Minkins, now a Montrealer, lived very close to what is today Little Burgundy. However, the pervasive negative stereotypes of Black people that were spread throughout the United States had also made their way to the city, a topic Webster and Cheikh discuss with author and historian Dr. Dorothy Williams. The pair’s long journey from Virginia to Montreal finally ends at Minkins’ grave in the Mount Royal Cemetery. There, they reflect on the lessons to be learned from his heroic journey and the symbol of brave resistance he has become.
