Somewhere between the fall of 1992 and the winter of 1993 things began to change. When the mainstream media suddenly took an interest in the most recent murders, the case became politicized. Activists leveraged the media interest to agitate for change and demand hearings at the Human Rights Commission. However, their calls to the justice minister would go unanswered — until Roger LeClerc jokingly brandished a threat that was to force the hand of political leadership.
