Days before the Human Rights Commission hearings, Roger and his colleagues experienced a bitter blow: As opposed to being the main focus, the murders were relegated to the background. Deeply discouraged, the activists were to receive a surprise phone call that would turn things around. On the line was the archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal, struggling with a tragedy that was to propel the heinous killings back into the spotlight. His intervention was to give the city’s LGBTQ+ community a chance to finally expose the injustices it had suffered.
