The February beauty launches we're eyeing right now
Oh-so-sweet scents, new nail polish hues, a killer face masque, something for him and more
February is the shortest month we have to endure this winter, but thankfully it's not short on beauty launches. Between Valentine's Day and beauty brands wanting to start the year off with all that new-new, there are products galore hitting shelves like right now. Here are the best that we saw this month.
Saving face
Sometimes your complexion and a sheet mask just click. Not only is The Body Shop's new Drops of Youth mask super hydrating (desperate times, amiright?), it contains community trade organic babassu oil from Brazil, as well as edelweiss and sea holly plant stem cells, and the sheet mask itself is biodegradable.

Barely there
CND launched 15 new hues just in time for spring, including Satin Slippers, a pale pink shade that fits in well with the white nail trend while also being a touch more subtle. And its long-lasting formula means you can carry all those feels into the next week of your life.
CND Vinylux Long Wear Polish in Satin Slippers, $12, Chatters, Chatters.ca and select participating salons across Canada
Dude, where's my bar soap?
Some men are cool with using the same soap all over their body and to wash their hair, while other guys have an eight-step routine — stealing from their partner's stash notwithstanding. Wherever you or your dude land on the grooming spectrum, check out clean brand Beautycounter's new line, Counterman. Stocked with all the bathroom essentials, there's a beard oil, body wash and aftershave (naturally), but the line also has a daily exfoliating cleanser and clarifying toner pads, a few things you don't often see in men's skincare.
Beautycounter's Counterman Daily Exfoliating Cleanser, $25, Clarifying Toner Pads, $36, beautycounter.com
Spring ahead
Add a touch of floral to your dreary winter day-to-day with a new addition to your scent collection — we like Nest's Wild Poppy rollerball for a few reasons. Rollerballs are a bit more economical than grabbing a full fragrance; you can test out the juice with your body chemistry without a huge investment, and they also fit nicely in your purse. If you're into a fruity floral, Wild Poppy contains pear, raspberry, Himalayan jasmine and Rose de Grasse.
Nest Wild Poppy Eau de Parfum Rollerball, $36, sephora.ca
Cool relax
It's about this time every year when our complexion can start to freak out, thanks to the up-and-down temperatures, the chilly wind and the forced indoor air. Some of us may even have redness across our cheeks and around our nose. Enter the latest addition to Dermalogica's Ultra Calming collection — Redness Relief Essence. Made with aloe vera leaf juice, vitamin E, licorice root and oat-derived extracts to help calm irritation and redness, the essence may tingle at first while helps to soothe the skin (you should notice that tingle dissipate quite quickly). Pat on with your hands after cleansing at least once a day or you can apply twice daily if needed.
Dermalogica Ultra Calming Redness Relief Essence, $58, dermalogica.ca on February 14, 2019
Sunny delight
Apparently after we hit 40, we start to lose collagen in our skin by 1 per cent each year. Vichy's response is their latest formulation, which is infused with vitamin C, to help plump and brighten, as well as collagen and hyaluronic acid to help add hydration to the skin.
Vichy LiftActiv Collagen Specialist, $60, vichy.ca
Detox me
Charcoal has become a hyped up ingredient thanks to its detoxifying properties. If you're feeling like your complexion could use a little pick-me-up, Garnier has just launched a range of charcoal products, including a peel off masque. If you've seen Workin' Moms season 2, episode seven, where Anne and Ian do black peel off masques together, fret not — there's little chance that you'll actually pull out your eyebrows. What will come off are any dead skin cells. Follow-up with a hydrating mask for a boost of moisture post peel.
Garnier Black Peel Off Masque with Charcoal, $11, amazon.ca
Sensorial sensation
Sweeten up beyond Valentine's Day and into the coming warmer months (spring is coming, it always does!) with another new fruity floral fragrance like Miu Miu's Twist — the ads feature oh-so-darling Elle Fanning. The scent carries notes of apple blossom, pink amber and tonka bean.
Miu Miu Twist Eau de Parfum, $105, sephora.com
Winter winner
If you're skin is super parched right now (whose isn't?) you'll be reaching for hand lotion ad nauseam for the next few months. Bio-Oil is adding a concentrated gel to their line that promises to scale back the scaly skin. It's a gel-to-oil formula that quickly sinks in (so no greasy hands), and is composed of mostly the same ingredients as their star prod, the Bio-Oil Skin Oil, which was introduced to consumers 30 years ago. Dry Skin Gel, which comes in three sizes, is only the second launch for the brand.
Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel, $9 (50 mL), $15 (100 mL), $25 (100 mL), Shoppers Drug Mart and select drugstores across Canada
Smooth moves
Clarins is bringing their skincare know-how to a younger generation with the launch of MyClarins, a vegan, and botanical focused-line of skincare. Each product is free of parabens, phthalates and sulfates and 88 per cent of the ingredients, which include alpenrose, goji berry and fig extracts, and coconut water, are natural. Looking to diminish pores and mattify your complexion? Try the Poreless Blue and Matte Stick.
Clarins My Clarins Poreless Blur and matte stick, $21, Shoppers Drug Mart
The glow up
Have we talked enough about parched skin? It's an ongoing theme this month for sure. If sheet-masks aren't your thing Kosmea's Energising Radiance Mask just might be. Give skin a boost of hydration thanks to all-natural jojoba oil, Kakadu plum (this ingredient comes all the way from Australia, like the brand itself), rosehip oil and calendula.
Kosmea Energising Radiance Mask, $25, available at Loblaw's, Rexall, Whole Foods and more
