Shocking hair hues, statement lids and more beauty trends from New York Fashion Week FW18
Bye, subtle skin! Bright and bold is back.
A major star of fashion week, the buzz coming out of New York surrounded Desmond Napoles, a 10-year-old drag sensation who walked in the Gypsy Sport show early in the week, perhaps predicting a touch of fierce glamour for the entire week. And where makeup artists went decidedly pared down (think bare lips, and no blusher) for Spring 2018, fall was all about over-the-top individuality. So throw caution to the wind and jump on these Fall 2018 trends now!
Ocean deep
At Jeremy Scott, makeup artist Kabuki, went with multi-coloured trompe l'oeil liner which included a striking cyan blue. At Adam Selman and Veronica Beard, thick cat eye in cyan and teal, respectively, drew major attention to model's eyes. At Hugo Boss (Jason Wu's last collection for the brand), makeup artist Thomas de Kluyer lightly diffused blue shadow across the lids, while at Sies Marjan, designer Sander Lak approved smokey teal eye for all his girls.

Happy hues
Done with undone hair, stylists and colourists had some fun backstage this season. Alexander Wang sent model EZ down the runway with "penny red" slick hair, while stylist Guido Palau and colourist Josh Wood created neon-infused bowl cuts at Marc Jacobs, which gave models a Lisbeth Salander/Vidal Sassoon look. Bright shades were also spotted at Sies Marjan (baby blues and pinks at the root line) and Gypsy Sport (pink ombre extensions!).

You've got nailsā¦
So you might as well dress them up! Nail artists stepped away from the flesh tone polishes and went wild, with neon animal print nails at Jeremy Scott, flaming orange nails with graphic black squares at Chromat, and a twist on French manis thanks to updated shimmer tips at Cushnie et Ochs, and burgundy with metallic tips or silver with orange tips at Tanya Taylor. Over at Self Portrait, Canadian Rita Remark swiped Essie in Midnight Cami on nails, bringing back the goth days of yore. And at Libertine, models wore talons adorned with fringe the swept along the runway as the sashayed down. An eerily beautiful take on goth, although not all that practical.

A rouge for every occasion
Drunken cherry may sound like your new favourite cocktail, but this shiny red from M.A.C showed up on the pouts of models at Tadashi Shoji. Also working rouge lips were the gals at Chromat (an intense orange with Ruby Woo red liner, and slick as all get out), Bottega Veneta (a matte brown/burgundy from makeup artist Pat McGrath), Brandon Maxwell (this true red was complemented by a hit of shimmer on the cupid's bow) and Cushnie et Ochs (where a deep brown-red was lined to perfection.

Micro trends:
At Oscar de la Renta, Alice & Olivia, Ulla Johnson and Kate Spade sparkly lids, a hold over from Spring 2018, were present, sometimes with actual crystals adorning lids (Spade and Alice & Olivia), gold leaf placed just so (Johnson) and metallic infused shadows lightly swiped across (de la Renta). While at Tanya Taylor and Saks Potts, makeup artists paid special attention to the eyes by adding a swipe of white and blue liquid liner across the lower waterline.
