Season 9 Applications FAQ: The Great Canadian Baking Show
Answers to some of the most common questions on how this year's auditions will unfold.
Will there be virtual auditions?
YES! The Great Canadian Baking Show will be conducting one-on-one virtual baking auditions with selected candidates from across the country. Please check for updates on our social channels (Facebook & Instagram)
How will the virtual audition process work?
First, all aspiring bakers must apply through the online portal. From there, a casting associate and culinary producer will contact potential candidates for a phone interview. If selected for the next round, the casting team will take applicants through a multi-phase audition process. Candidates will be given a baking assignment to practice and prepare for the audition, where they will be asked to bake in their home kitchen, while a culinary producer and casting associate observe the live feed and ask questions about technique, ingredients and progress.
What type of video should I upload on the casting form?
At this time, the only thing you need to do is submit an application via the casting page. Within this form, there is an opportunity to upload a short (maximum 3 mins) video to introduce yourself. However, this introductory video is not the audition. Our casting team will review all applications and will contact potential candidates. The team will then take you through a series of interviews and discussions after which you may be selected for a video audition. At that point, all details about the baking assignment and video audition will be shared with you.
Is there going to be a technical bake, if so, how will it be done?
Candidates selected for a video audition will receive a baking assignment in advance of their audition time.
How will you know if the baking tastes any good?
When applying online, the more information about you and your baking that you can provide, the better. Photos and videos that show your creativity, ambition and range will help a lot with the selection process. During the virtual audition, the culinary producer will be looking closely at technique and ingredient measuring, while also guiding you to describe the flavours of the bake.
When will Season 9 of The Great Canadian Baking Show be shot?
We are still confirming exact start date, but shooting should begin late spring/early summer.
Will Season 9 still be shot in the tent?
Yes, that's the plan. It wouldn't be The Great Canadian Baking Show without the tent. We look forward to returning to film on the grounds of the Canadian Film Centre.
If I applied before, can I apply again?
Yes. Our application form has been updated this year and all applicants will be reviewed by our casting team. We'd love to hear from past applicants who've been learning and practicing.
