If you're hosting a big celebratory bash this Canada Day long weekend, you may already have your guest list sorted and your decorations DIYed, but if you're still searching for an extra special recipe that'll really make your soirée stand out, boy do we have a solution for you! Inspired by Frito pie bars, which have quickly become staples on game days and camping trips, we asked Insta-famous foodie Dennis The Prescott to create an ultra-Canadian version that swaps out the Fritos for some of our favourite snacks that are only available here at home: ketchup chips, all-dressed, and hickory sticks.

For those unfamiliar with the Frito pie bar concept, it's essentially a spread full of toppings like chili, shredded cheese and chopped veggies that you can mix right into your snack-sized chip bag and eat all together. The best part about it? Most items can be found at the grocery store, and there's minimal prep required, meaning you won't have to spend your entire weekend in the kitchen. Plus, you can customize the toppings to suit your guests' preferences for the ultimate help-yourself buffet where everyone ends up with their ideal concoction. Oh, and the grab-and-go nature of the bar set-up is perfect for parties where you want everyone to be free to mingle rather than stuck huddled around the food table.

To help get you started, here's a list of everything we included in our feast:

  • Snack-sized bags of ketchup chips, all-dressed and hickory sticks
  • Chili (Try our carnivore-friendly recipe, our vegetarian version or use your personal favourite)
  • Guacamole (Try our recipe, or use your personal favourite)
  • Hot sauce
  • Sour cream
  • Jalapeños, sliced and seeded
  • Green onions, chopped
  • Tomatoes, diced
  • Radishes, thinly sliced
  • Red onion, diced
  • Shredded cheese (or a crumbly variety like queso fresco)
  • Cilantro, chopped
  • Limes, quartered

While there's no real recipe you need to stick to for this feast, it's best to do all your chopping ahead of time, so you can indulge worry-free with the rest of your gang when it's time to eat.
