Make this red and white Canada Day photo wall for the most 'grammable weekend ever
Your summer BBQ just got a little more photogenic.
The Canada Day long weekend is almost here. Whether you're headed to cottage country, or will be BBQ-ing in your own backyard, this red and white backdrop is the perfect photo op for any July 1 get together you may be hosting. It's easy to make, ready in less than 10 steps and totally customizable. You only need some fabric and a few other tools to tackle this DIY, so check out the video below and happy crafting!
Here's what you'll need:
- Variety of fabric in red and white (2 feet of red, 3 feet of white)
- Approximately 9 feet of twine
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- 3 ½ foot stick
- Drill
- ¼-inch drill bit (or slightly larger than width of wire rope)
- Approximately 5 feet of wire rope
- 2 crimp sleeves
- Linesman pliers
- Sewing needle
- Canadian-inspired costumes and props (balloons, hats, flags, etc)
Here's how to do it:
1. Cut your strips of fabric. They should all be approximately 4 inches wide. Cut the red pieces 2 feet long and the white ones 3 feet long. Instead of using your measuring tape for each strip of fabric, simply measure the lengths you need in twine, and use the twine as your reference for cutting the rest of the pieces.
2. Tie each piece of white fabric between 2 red pieces by knotting them together. Get creative and mix and match your styles and patterns.
3. Make your top bar by drilling two through-holes on one end of the stick, roughly an inch apart. Repeat on the other end.
4. Feed the end of the wire through a crimp sleeve and then thread the wire through the top outside hole you just created on the stick. Pull it back through the bottom inside hole and back through your crimp sleeve. Make sure to leave a little bit of room for a later step. Use your linesman pliers to secure the crimp sleeve in place.
5. Using the other end of your wire, repeat step 4 on the other end of the stick.
6. Now it's time to add the fabric to the stick. Thread approximately 4 feet of twine through the top of all of your fabric strips you created. Use a needle and thread to help guide you through each piece, and scissors to make a tiny cut when needed.
7. Attach the twine to the small wire loops on the underside of the stick created in step 4. You should have enough room to push the wire loop down to allow you to tie off your twine.
8. Hang your photo backdrop!
9. Equip the booth with your best Canadian-inspired costumes and props and you've got the perfect photo op for the long weekend ahead!
