Self-described 'foodie' gradually making her way through entire Jack Astor's menu
Allyson Kramtz loves food, and she doesn't care who knows it.
"I'm into all kinds of cuisine — I'm basically a huge foodie. I'm pretty adventurous — hot, cold, mains, apps. I love soft drinks, I love alcoholic beverages, I love dessert. I'll go for anything."
"Basically if it's on the Jack Astor's menu, I'll eat it."
Kramtz says that her friends and family often marvel at her willingness to try anything and everything, as long as it's available at a Jack Astor's Bar & Grill.
Says Allyson, "Just because something's 'weird' or 'foreign,' like Jack's Fajita Bowl or Pad Thai Bowl, or even the Bombay Chicken Curry Bowl, that doesn't mean I'm going to avoid it. And I feel bad for anyone who's not at Jack Astor's right now trying it. Life is for the living!"
"I get depressed when I see my friends post pics on Instagram from the same place in the city every time they go out to eat," she says. "I'm willing to travel. Like, I usually go to the Yonge-Dundas Square restaurant because it's near work so I can hit it up as easily for lunch as I can for dinner, but they know me at Jack's locations all over the city."
Kramtz says that one of the keys to giving her palate a taste of all the various flavours on offer is not to go overboard on any one of them.
"I'll order the Ye Olde Faithful Macho Nachos (I don't know why they're called that, and I'm never going to ask, that's not my job) and I'll have three chips. Once I've gotten a feel for the texture and crunch of the nacho, as well as its interplay with the onions, the jalapenos, and each of the three cheeses, I'm done, I've tried that. You don't need to overdo it; you wouldn't visit India twice!"
"My friends complain and say I'm wasting food but they just don't understand, things are different when you're an epicurean, when you're a gourmand. You're not shoveling things in, you're tasting a grain of sand from the shore of every ocean."
Kramtz says that after she's done with Jack Astor's, "I'll probably take a break for a while and go back to regular food. Maybe try a new challenge. I've always loved music, but do I have the range it would take to explore AC/DC's entire catalogue? Perhaps I'll find out."
