Who doesn't remember the sniff-able markers we all used in our grade-school classrooms all throughout the '90s? We're not sure who came up with the idea of markers that smelled of the most wonderful fruits and aromas, but they gave us all fond memories. Well, partial ones anyway. We spoke to 5 Canadians who were students in the '90s, to share their experiences!

Steve Travers, 38 - It was always an exciting day when someone brought in a pack of Mr. Sketch markers. I remember opening one up and finding the Cherry-smelling one. That was always my favourite. I'd open up the cap and then… … um, and then… sorry. Ha. Can't remember what came next, sorry.

Gail Widsom, 41 - Here's something a lot of people don't know: you could combine a couple smells and it would make a whole new smell!

I don't remember any of the ones that I did, personally? I sort of remember starting to, talking to my friends about it, and then I remember taking the cap off two markers at the same time and then, to be honest, it all gets a little bit hazy! But oh boy. Believe me, it was so, so much fun. I bet.

George Hurlbert, 30 - Now I'm a bit younger, but I still remember when the teacher would bring in a bunch of these markers. By the time I was using them, there were all sorts of new smells: Tropical Punch! Banana Split! Blue Raspberry Slushy! Cotton Candy! Buttery popcorn!!!

Don't those sound absolutely wonderful? They do, right? Oh man. I cannot tell you what the actual markers smelled like? Because at around the time I excitedly opened them up to take a deep, hearty sniff, everything gets very fuzzy and I know one time I definitely woke up in the nurse's office? But just the description of those markers that I no doubt at some point smelled, otherwise why would I remember them or be describing them? Certainly none of those scents I described would have just been something that I came up with, after waking from a marker-induced fever dream in the nurse's office for the fifth time that week.

Was "floor" a scent as well? That seems to be coming to mind very strongly. Floor.

Raspberry Floor, perhaps?

Magdalena Smith, 39 - I was in rehab from 2001 – 2008 for Root Beer-scented Mr. Sketch–related reasons. I do not wish to comment at this time.

Hugh Boron, 36 - My favourite part was probably when you found a colour you hadn't seen before. You'd open the cap, lift the marker toward your nose, and then something would happen afterward, no clue what it was, that part is not available to me.

And there you have it! The near-memories of '90s kids of your favourite smell-able products. We're not quite sure why we included that one about the individual in rehab, but we are absolutely sure about this: Mr. Sketch will remain, near, around, and on the periphery of Canadian students and nineties kids for years to come.
