Choir cynic Amil Niazi meets Toronto's Choir! Choir! Choir!

Amil Niazi sits down with Choir! Choir! Choir! founders Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman to talk about the group's efforts to raise money for a family of Syrian refugees, and she pushes through some old uncomfortable memories of school choirs as she spends the evening singing with the masses.

A self-described choir hater, Amil NIazi investigates why Toronto's amateur group Choir! Choir! Choir! has become so popular, on the night of a major milestone: raising tens of thousands of dollars to help a family of Syrian refugees.

Chances are Toronto's Choir! Choir! Choir! has floated through your Facebook news feed in the last week or so. After the passing of David Bowie, Choir! founders Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman led the amateur group as they sang out their sadness in a rendition of "Space Oddity" at the Art Gallery of Ontario. It was a stirring moment, and it's gone viral.

That's not the first time Choir!'s made headlines — they've performed alongside Tegan and Sara, Damien Rice and even a visibly moved Patti Smith. We sent our correspondent Amil Niazi, someone not particularly fond of choirs, to check them out, on a very special night for the group: the end of their campaign to raise funds for a family of Syrian refugees.
