Watch two B.C. men share each other's stories of community, support and belonging

In "CrossReads: Community," two B.C. men share the very different communities that define and support them: minor hockey and a local mosque.

These two B.C. men have spent their lives rooted in tight-knit Canadian communities — one of faith and one of sport.

Haroon Khan, president of the Pakistan Canada Association, grew up practicing Islam in his Muslim community. Khan's Vancouver mosque is one of the oldest in Canada, and the first established in British Columbia. After the Quebec attacks, it became a place of solidarity for people of all backgrounds.

It is our diversity that makes us unique as all Canadians, but also separate as communities.-  Haroon Khan

Hockey coach Brandon Astle believes minor hockey is "the heartbeat of every community." He grew up playing in Port Coquitlam, B.C. and every spring, his hockey association hosted a tournament where international teams from the U.S. and Czech Republic faced-off in his local arena.

Watch as Khan and Astle — strangers to each other — share the other's story, revealing what they have in common despite seemingly disparate experiences.
