And the winner of CBC's #WeAreTheChange is...

Earlier this year, CBC — along with White Pictures, the creators of We Are Canada, and Ryerson University — put out a call challenging young change-makers to explain how they were making an impact in their communities. After a flurry of submissions, finalist selections and weeks of voting, Chelmsford, Ont., teacher Amanda Kingsley Malo emerged victorious. Check out her top-10 finalist video above. 

Kingsley Malo is the force behind Politics Now, a group focused on getting more women involved in city councils across northern Ontario.

"Women are historically underrepresented in all levels of government, and I see that still throughout northern Ontario," Kingsley Malo wrote in her submission to the contest. "As a life-long resident of Sudbury, I strive for women to be able to look at their city council and be able to see themselves represented." 

For her, equal representation is not only a personal passion, but a community issue.

"Women's participation in the political process benefits everyone, as they tend to enact policies that benefit women, children and families, as well as community life and communities in general." 

As grand prize winner of #WeAreTheChange, Kingsley Malo will have her project featured in a video produced by White Pine Pictures and featured on the CBC's website. So keep your eyes peeled — we have a feeling this is just the beginning.
