The new Canada 150 banknote entered circulation on June 1. The new bill features a more diverse roster of historical figures than past designs Canadians are used to.
French-Canadian Father of Confederation Sir George-Étienne Cartier, Canada's first senator from a treaty First Nation James Gladstone and Canada's first female member of Parliament Agnes MacPhail join the country's first prime minister on this commemorative edition. The unveiling of this bill came just a few months after black rights activist Viola Desmond was announced as the new face of the $10 banknote. Desmond's design will be in circulation by late 2018.
