Only 150 days to go before Canada's big birthday year
On July 1, 2017, Canada will celebrate its sesquicentennial, marking 150 years since Confederation. It's more than just an anniversary — it's an opportunity to discover and share the diverse perspectives of Canadians, and help define where we're headed.
The 150-day countdown kicks off on Thursday August 4 with a major launch event featuring Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly, CBC's Julie Nesrallah and performing artists from across Canada. You can watch the event streamed live starting at 1:30 p.m. ET at CBC Ottawa's Facebook page:
CBC will also be asking Canadians across the country to help us tell Canada's story. Many prominent Canadians have already weighed in on what defines the country for them, and now it's your turn! Send CBC News an email, Tweet, video or Facebook post under the hashtag #CBC2017, or keep you eye open for us in a city near you this fall.
Today's launch is just the beginning. 2017 is going to be a big year for Canada — so CBC is partnering up with Canadian Heritage to count down the last 150 days until our national birthday year. Expect all sorts of surprise activities across the country as Canadians gear up for a year of celebration and reflection.
