12 sporting tributes, challenges and competitions happening for Canada 150

New Year's is over and Canada Day is month's away — but that doesn’t mean you can’t be excited for the Sesquicentennial all year.

This is just a small taste of celebrations planned for Canada 150. To make the most of your year, check out this list of 150 ways to get in on Canada's 150th. 

1. 105th Grey Cup: Ottawa is hosting the annual Canadian Football League championship game, kicking off at TD Place Stadium at Lansdowne Park on Sunday, November 26. (Ottawa)

2. ACTIVATE in Action: This cross-country campaign is encouraging young Canadians to get active within their community by sending 150 youth leaders (ages 16-22) to run sport programs for younger Canadians. The project aims to get 20,000 people up and moving.

3. BOXX Play 150: From January 15 to July 8, BOXX Play is recognizing Canadian kids who have adopted a more active lifestyle by giving them the autograph of a NHL player. The organization aims to celebrate 150 kids.

4. CanadaC3: Canada C3 is an epic 150-day, 15-leg sailing journey from Toronto to Victoria through the Northwest Passage. It will explore the largest coastline in the world, navigate Canada's three oceans and celebrate the past, present and future of our amazing country.

5. Canada Games Activity Challenge: To mark 50 years of Canada Games, the Canada Games Council's will join Canadian students through sport. Starting in January, students ages 5-12 in schools across Canada will have the opportunity to participate in fun-filled activities that encourage an active lifestyle.

6. The Invictus Games: Over 550 competitors from 17 countries will congregate in Toronto September 23-30 for this second occasion of this international sport event. The Invictus Games are the only international adaptive sport event for injured, ill or wounded active duty and veteran service members. 7. Project Coastline: This youth leadership program is sharing maritime heritage through nautical programing, including building two canoes and running a social media campaign. Over 2,000 youth (ages 13-29) will participate. (Ont., Que. and N.S.) 

8. Red Bull Crashed Ice: From March 3 to 4, Ottawa will host the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship where elite athletes will compete on the iconic Rideau Canal locks. (Ottawa)

9. Stanley Cup Tribute: Ottawa is holding a four day celebration to commemorate 25 years of the Ottawa Senators, 100 years of the National Hockey League and 125 years of the Stanley Cup. From March 15 to 18, guest speakers, musical performances and hockey legends will celebrate these three occasions. (Ottawa)  

10. Toronto Sport Hall of Honour: On February 23, the city of Toronto will be celebrating 150 years of sport by inducting sports superstars to the Hall of Honour. (Toronto)

11. Tri-Conic Challenge: Canadians can test their limits during a three day triathlon taking place from June 30 to July 3. Participants will run, bike and swim against historical Canadian machines. (Port Alberni, B.C.)

12. True Canada Adventures: Black Feather is offering 13 "True Canada" experiences in the Canadian wilderness, including hiking in the Rockies, camping under the northern lights and photographing a polar bear.
